Jim Johnson Nissan located at 2200 Scottsville Road in Bowling Green, KY cannot believe the innovations that Nissan has delivered to the market in recent years. The newest, and in our opinion one of the most exciting, is a new electronic transmission steering system that provides not only a more nimble and fun driving experience, but a safer one as well.
This new system (the first of its kind) provides for independent control of new Nissan model's tire angle and steering inputs by "reading" drivers' intentions and directing the car automatically to avoid danger or to be more efficient. The major difference between this system and conventional steering systems is the fact that here there is no mechanical link between the car's wheels and the steering column.
The new steering system also stands out from conventional systems because of its integrated stability-enhancing system which uses a camera positioned above the rearview mirror to "learn" about the highway ahead and gather information on lane direction, traffic, and speed. The system will automatically override the driver's mistakes in serious situations to keep the driver and passengers safe.
You may be asking yourself: But what if the system fails?
The answer, we are glad to tell you, is that the system is virtually fail proof thanks to redundant ECUs (electronic control units) . if one should fail, there are two more waiting to take its place. Watch for this new steering system to show up sometime in 2013, most likely in Nissan's luxury models.
