Nissan has been teaming with Habitat for Humanity since 2005. Over the course of the past seven years, the Japanese automaker has donated millions of dollars worth of charitable contributions and over 100 vehicles to transport tools, materials, and volunteers. Not to mention some serious sweat... While, Jim Johnson Nissan does not wish to count the liters, we can tell you Nissan employees have helped to built 50 homes for people desperately in need of a home in a safe community.

Right now, they're actually working on their 51st home for a single mother of two, Kenya Bouie. The super-sustainable ENERGY STAR 3.0 home is being constructed in Jonesboro, GA, with the help of Nissan volunteers, Habitat for Humanity volunteers, and Ms. Bouie herself. From the sounds of it, she has grown quite comfortable swinging a hammer.

At the same time, Ms. Bouie demonstrates great humility and thanks toward everyone who has helped provide a safe, secure home in  a neighborhood where her two girls can actually run around outside - something so many take for granted. "I'll never forget what people are doing to for me and my girls,"1 she says.

In addition to a obtaining a safe and healthy house, Habitat for Humanity helps  new homeowners such as Ms. Bouie feel less isolated in their struggle for housing. And, they share practical skills on how to perform basic household repairs in a cost-efficient manner.
