Auto brand Nissan certainly does understand how to successfully combine cultures! Recently, the Japanese automaker celebrated its newest manufacturing plant in Aguasalientes, Mexico, the second of its kind and the third total plant in the country, by setting down the first stone of the building in a ceremony that beautifully combined Japanese and Mexican cultures.

Bill Kreueger, Vice Chairman of Nissan Americas, explains the importance of the new plant, stating, "The new Aguascalientes complex underscores the objectives set forth by Nissan´s global strategy, Nissan Power 88, including a target global market share of 8 percent. The increase of manufacturing capacity for an operation that has already proven its leadership, will enable us to deliver more innovative vehicles for markets that are clamoring for them."1

Several Nissan executives attended the ceremony, which was performed according to the Japanese tradition of Daruma, a figure without legs or arms with whitened eyes that represents the motivation to fulfill goals. Following tradition, the eye of this figure was darkened to represent the goal of finishing the factory in record time. A time capsule was also placed with the first stone while children Japanese chorus children and Mexican dancers performed in celebration.
